Now I’m not the biggest fan of the USA.
Let’s put it another way: I’m not a blind fan of the USA, and a lot of what the US thinks is great about itself I would question.
But never would I question the greatness of that nation.
The arrogance of this Swede, though, is staggering.
U.S. writers are “too sensitive to trends in their own mass culture,” dragging down the quality of their work.
“The U.S. is too isolated, too insular. They don’t translate enough and don’t really participate in the big dialogue of literature,” Engdahl said. “That ignorance is restraining.”

“The U.S. is too isolated, too insular.”
Unfortunately, this is true in a whole lot of other areas besides literature. Sigh . . .
Aaaww, I have never heard of U.S. arrogance before. U.S. have such a kind and nice people who never resort to violence ever.
The arrogance of U.S., especially in foreign politics have staggered billions of people, a lot more than a “little Swede”.
BTW, I’m Swedish myself and find the response found in the original article very funny. The snobs at the academy could need some heat for a change. (I have never liked snobs.)
However, U.S. can’t “shock and awe” itself out of this one. They can try if they like, you “ignorant AND arrogant fools”!
By the way, why not put Sweden on the “War-against-terror” list if U.S thinks that it will solve anything.
Like invading would solve the mainproblem… That is; U.S. itself.
MENTAL EUROSCLEROSIS
There you go – No matter which “great” presidente you might vote for (don’t fool yourselves about that) – europeans will still hate America, for the simple fact that your great nation is the envy of the world – not to mention Europe has only had peace and real development under the Pax americana.
That’s why I don’t ever play that foolish game of easily criticizing America because ‘c’est à la mode’.
