This discussion has legs over on Facebook , where I import these blog posts as Notes. If you have access to that site, you can read more of it there.

If not you'll just have to take my word for it. And Rick, sorry if Misick's such a red flag that bringing him into a discussion invalidates the question of freedom of speech and right to privacy! Not my intention at all, I assure you. The thing about principles is that they have to apply to all situations, don't they -- even ones whose realities we abhor.

Did you guys read the sordid history of the Turks in todays Tribune editorial?
As you know, I am no fan of government, but do you think Britain took that step lightly?
If i were in their shoes it would be the last thing I would want to do.
If we are talking Constitutional law, fine. But to bring Misick into the same discussion clouds the issue in my view.
Once Misick can clear the allegations against him he can get back into politics if he wishes. Until then, we should not stand shoulder to shoulder with him.

Straight and fully Nicolette, I agree with you. UK made a hasty decision. There's a saying, "Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater." Misick might have been corrupt but a newly elected government was in place and deserved to be supported. Turks and Caicos' citizens are left holding the bag and face uncertainty thanks to the choices of few.

Rick, you misread me; I am not defending Mr. Misick in the slightest. I am, however, raising questions about the way in which the British government reacted when faced with the issues of corruption. Their suspension of the constitution does not only deal with Mr. Misick; it affects the entire population of the country, and suggests that the entire nation is unable to govern itself (when the blame should fall upon one man and his government). That's what the penultimate paragraph is all about.

Dear Nicolette:
I was right with you until you got to the penultimate paragraph where it seems you are defending Mr. Misick.
The allegations against him and his cabinet are very serious indeed and time will tell if tehy are correct or not.
In the mean time, the law should take its course as far as Turks and Caicos are concerned.

While I agree with some of your analysis about small countries having difficulty managing in-bred corruption and I will throw in nepotism, I also have a huge problem with anonymous blogging, particularly when there is no source or corroboration cited. This is a dangerous footing in the new world of internet blogging. Just because you can say anything you want and get away with it, doesn't mean that you should. We should all be able to examine the source. I am for freedom of activism, but activists are brave souls in the front lines showing their faces and proud of it. That's activism and honor. What happened to honor?
