Ringplay Secures IDB Grant

In June of this year, Ringplay was awarded one of a number of grants given by the Inter-American Development Bank for cultural projects (thanks, Camille!).
The project we proposed was a dual workshop to bring to the Bahamian stage an original play. We were worried about the number of new plays that are produced without undergoing the workshopping process, and decided to create a workshop based on Ringplay members’ extensive experience in workshopping original plays.
The Children’s Teeth by Nicolette Bethel was chosen because it’s been finished for two years and hasn’t seen a theatre or a group of actors, because it’s been over ten years since Nico’s put out a new play, and because, well, if you can’t produce the work of your own members, whose work can you produce?
The proposal calls for a scriptwriting workshop to tweak the script and bring it to stage-readiness, and then for a production workshop to get it up and running.
The Children’s Teeth is slated to be produced early in 2006.
