Plenary Session: Announcing CARIFESTA

Hello:
Congratulations, but its long in comming. Clement Bethel with Alex Zybine did much for the investigation of the cultural aspect of the Bahamas.
They created the first “Bahamas Folklore Group”, which traveled to many parts of the States, was part of the cultural Olympics in Mexico City. created Ballets on Bahamian Folk stories like “Belinda”, etc&etc. Its too bad that Alex Zybine is not recognized, but I guess thats because he is not Bahamian??
No, Alex isn’t recognized because none of the cultural greats (except Clement Bethel in the Arts Festival) have been properly recognized — yet.
There is no question that the Zybines did much for dance and culture in The Bahamas, and they will be high on the list for recognition with the institution of the Cultural Hall of Fame.
Are you planning any trips to Nassau soon?
Nicolette Bethel (Clement’s daughter)
Hi Nicolette:
Thanks fro the answer, I am so glad you are so aware.
We are tentatively planing a trip to Nassau for June 2007.
Its for most “New Breed Dancers”, theyr 50th. Birthday. They were all part of the “Bahamas Folklore Group”. I keep in touch with Roderick Jhonson, and Kim Pinder who lives in Germany, and she is organizing it. It will be a sentimental reunion.
