Lord of the Rings musical opens in Toronto

… and is promptly panned, at least by the Telegraph.

An excerpt:

Like the evil Sauron, the production has plans for world domination, and is due in London next spring. Tolkien buffs (and they are legion) may ensure its survival, but I have a hunch that most will find the show far from hobbit-forming and emerge as bored of the Rings as I was.

    I’ve also heard that since it opened, ticket sales have doubled so this might very well be a critic proof show but one will just have to wait and see.
